今日、12月8日は「事納め」であり、そして「針供養（はりくよう）」の日です。
一年間、硬い布地を縫い続けて折れたり曲がったりした針たち。 「今までお疲れ様。最後はやわらかいところでゆっくり休んでね」 そんな感謝の気持ちを込めて、お豆腐やこんにゃくに古針を刺して供養する、日本らしい優しい行事です。
今回のイラストでは、紫乃さんと柴犬の小豆が、静かに針供養を行っている様子を描きました。
二人が着ているのは、この日のためのお揃いの着物。 紫乃さんの大好きな紫色をベースに、カラフルな「糸巻き」や「手鞠（てまり）」があしらわれた、お裁縫にまつわる可愛らしいデザインです。
傍らには使い込まれたお針箱。 紫乃さんが優しく針を豆腐に刺す様子を、小豆も「ありがとうだワン」と隣で見守っています。
年末に向けて何かと慌ただしくなる時期ですが、こうして一度立ち止まり、普段使っている道具たちに「ありがとう」と伝える時間を持つことは、とても素敵ですね。

Today, December 8th, marks “Koto-osame” (the end of yearly tasks) and also “Harikuyo” (Needle Memorial Service) in Japan.
Throughout the year, sewing needles work hard, piercing through tough fabrics until they break or bend. “Thank you for your hard work. Please rest now in a soft place.” With such gratitude, people gently stick old needles into blocks of soft tofu or konjac jelly. It is a gentle, traditionally Japanese custom to honor these tools.
In this illustration, Shino-san and her Shiba Inu, Azuki, are quietly performing Harikuyo.
They are wearing matching kimonos specially chosen for this day. Based on Shino’s favorite purple color, the design features charming sewing motifs like colorful “itomaki” (thread spools) and “temari” (thread balls).
A well-used sewing box sits beside them. As Shino gently places a needle into the tofu, Azuki sits by her side, watching over the process as if saying, “Thank you, too.”
December is a busy season leading up to the end of the year. However, taking a moment to pause and say “thank you” to the tools we use daily is a wonderful practice.
