今日の絵日記は、日本のクリスマスの食卓の風景です。 海外の皆さん、この組み合わせを見てどう思いますか？
「クリスマスなのに、七面鳥（ターキー）じゃないの？」 「なぜフライドチキン？」
そう思うのも無理はありません。でも、これが現在の日本の割とスタンダードなスタイルなんです！
🍗 なぜフライドチキン？ 実は1970年代に、あるフライドチキンチェーン店が「クリスマスにはケンタッキー」というキャンペーンを大々的に打ったことがきっかけだと言われています。それ以来、日本では「クリスマス＝チキンのバーレル」が定着しました。この時期は予約しないと買えないほどなんですよ。
🍰 日本のクリスマスケーキ そしてデザートは、ドライフルーツが入った重厚なケーキではなく、「ふわふわのスポンジに生クリームといちご」のショートケーキが王道です。紅白の色合いがめでたいから、という説もあります。
小豆（Azuki）は、チキンのスパイシーな香りに夢中で、早く食べようよ！とよだれを垂らしています（笑）。

Today’s picture diary shows a typical Japanese Christmas dinner table. Overseas friends, what do you think of this combination?
“Isn’t it supposed to be turkey for Christmas?” “Why fried chicken?”
It’s natural to think that. But this is the standard style in Japan today!
🍗 Why Fried Chicken? It is said that this started in the 1970s when a certain fried chicken chain (yes, KFC!) launched a massive campaign saying “Kentucky for Christmas.” Since then, “Christmas = Chicken Barrel” has become firmly established in Japan. It’s so popular that you often have to reserve it weeks in advance!
🍰 Japanese Christmas Cake And for dessert, instead of a heavy cake with dried fruits, the classic choice here is a “strawberry shortcake” made of fluffy sponge cake, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. Some say the red and white colors are considered auspicious in Japan.
Azuki is obsessed with the spicy smell of the chicken. “Hey Shino, stop taking pictures and let’s eat!” he seems to be saying, wagging his tail. (Sorry Azuki, this is for humans!)
